Korean BBQ-Inspired Pomegranate Short Ribs

1 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce*
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup grated onion
1/3 cup peeled and grated Asian pear or apple
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
3 pounds Korean style (flanken) beef short ribs
1/4 cup pomegranate arils, fresh or frozen
1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions


Whisk together pomegranate juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, onion, pear (or apple), garlic, and sesame oil in large bowl. Add beef ribs; turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight; turning occasionally.
Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Remove ribs from marinade; discard marinade. Grill ribs until cooked to medium or desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
To serve, arrange ribs on serving platter and sprinkle with pomegranate arils and green onions.
